Snowman Scene

Snowman Scene

Jamie Dorobek, C.R.A.F.T.

Create a winter wonderland display in the front of your house without snow! This project uses a string of white LED lights mounted to the outside of a window with Command™ Outdoor Light Clips in the shape of a snowman and incorporates white ribbon to make “snow”.

Materials needed:

  • Command™ Outdoor Light Clips – this project uses 45

    – Scotch™ Magic Tape

    – Exterior window surface with nearby power source

    – Black dry-erase marker

    – Dry-erase eraser

    – Two sticks

    – One strand of white LED lights

    – One roll of white ribbon

    – Snowflakes

    – Orange construction paper

    – Scissors

NOTE: Follow all Command™ Brand package instructions for proper surface cleaning and prep, adhesive strip placement and recommended weight claims.

  • Command™ Outdoor Light Clips

Instructions:

  • 1. To create the snowman, clean the window surface with isopropyl rubbing alcohol, wipe gently and let dry. Do not use glass cleaners or household cleaners as these may affect adhesion.

  • Step 1
  • 2. Use the dry-erase marker to sketch the outline of your snowman and mark the areas you plan to attach a Command™ Outdoor Light Clip.

NOTE: For best results, plan to use one clip every few inches to keep the snowman design taut. This project used 20 light clips to create the snowman.

  • Step 2
  • 3. To attach the Command™ Outdoor Light Clips, remove the blue liner and press the adhesive strip firmly to the back of the clip. Then, remove the black “wall side” liner and press the clip to window.

Press firmly along the entire clip for 30 seconds and wait one hour before use.

Repeat this step to adhere the remaining light clips following the outline.

  • Step 3
  • 4. Once all of the light clips have been placed, use the dry-erase eraser to remove all markings.

Beginning with one end of the strand of LED lights, insert the lights into the light clips, ensuring that the lights do not slouch between clips.

  • Step 4
  • 5. To dress up the scene, repeat step three above to adhere more light clips along the bottom of the window. Insert the remainder of the lights strand into the clips and weave the white ribbon in and out of the light clips to create “snow”.

Determine where you want to add snowflakes and use the dry-erase marker to mark these areas. Repeat step three above to adhere light clips and hang one snowflake from each light clip.

Repeat the step above to add sticks as arms for your snowman.

Cut out an orange triangle from construction paper, and tape it to the snowman’s face as a nose. Use the dry-erase marker to draw the snowman’s face and outfit: eyes, mouth, bow tie, hat, buttons, etc. Feel free to “re-dress” him every few days by erasing and re-drawing as necessary.

  • Step 5
